Spitfires win another

The Spitfires of ’24-25 are halfway towards their win total of the ’23-24 season. After missing the playoffs and placing 19th among the 20 teams of the Ontario Hockey League in ’23-24 with a record of 18-42-8, Windsor boosted its league best mark to 9-1-1 a month into the ’24-25 season with a 7-5 win over the Owen Sound Attack.

Thursday’s home ice victory was the fourth in as many starts for the Spitfires at the WFCU Center. The Spitfires are home again on Saturday night when they play host to the 8-2-0 Niagara IceDogs.

Second forward Jack Nesbitt powered the Spitfires to Thursday’s win over the Attack with three goals. Nesbitt, who was Windsor’s first round pick at the 2023 OHL priority selections draft, now has eight goals, six assists, 14 points in 11 games this season. He had nine goals, nine assists, 18 points in 58 games as a Spitfire rookie in ’23-24.

Ilya Protas with his ninth, Liam Greentree with his seventh, Noah Morneau with his fifth and rookie ninth rounder Ethan Garden with his second also scored for Windsor. Rookie goalie Carter Froggett made 15 saves for his first OHL win.

Greentree and Protas have at least one point in every game they have played this season. Greentree has played in 10 games and Protas has appeared in eight.
